Honors Math

The honors math program at OLS, which is available to students in 6th-8th grades, ensures that our graduates are well prepared for high school math programs - and beyond!  Mrs. Garbo's students have been hard at work this month.  The sixth graders created "Math About Me" posters as a way to both review previously-learned concepts and also share information about themselves involving math.  The seventh and eighth graders put together stem and leaf plots as well as box and whisker plots, which crossed over into their studies in science.  Besides their plots, the seventh grade is learning how to translate word sentences into equations and to solve variable equations.  The eighth graders are studying algebra by combining like terms.

A sample stem and leaf plot, which students use to organize and analyze data.
