The Show Me State

While we are getting our ducks in a row for this semester's academic content, we have some goodies from last year to share. We had more projects, events, and lessons than space on our blog, so we'll post some of them over the next few weeks.

In one of their final units of last year, the fourth graders learned about their home state of Missouri.  They wrote an article to attract tourists to come to our state using information they learned.  They also made a Missouri magnet.  They were given a wooden shape of Missouri and labeled major cities and rivers.

Welcome, Preschool and Kindergarten Families!

Now that our older students have eased back into the school routine, it's time to welcome our preschool and kindergarten students! The One Little Seed preschool program launched their school year yesterday. We love seeing the eager faces of the youngest members of our school family. Though morning drop-offs are a little tearful (for parents and kids alike!), we know they will settle into their new routine very soon.

OLS class of 2024!
The kindergarten students - the OLS class of 2024 - also met yesterday for the first time. Along with their parents, they explored their classroom, learned about their daily routine, and got to know their new friends. The families enjoyed a pizza lunch before the kids launched into an intense game of tag.

And with silly faces

We're very happy to welcome you to the OLS school family! We look forward to helping you learn and grow in the coming years.

OLS FAQ: Navigating the Lane

We recently launched a new site, olsfaq.com, to provide quick answers to the most commonly asked questions around OLS. Today we'd like to highlight one of the questions that affects our families every day: protocol for dropping off and picking up your child at school. You can find all the rules on the FAQ site, but here are a few reminders:

1. In the morning, if your child can exit your vehicle unassisted, you may enter the first driveway, pull down to the end of the lane, allow your child to climb out, and exit when the vehicles ahead of you move.
2. However, if your child needs help unbuckling or grabbing his bag, you should use the second driveway and park in the lot.
3. At the end of the day, the first driveway is closed to vehicle traffic. All cars must enter through the second driveway.
Do you have other questions about the daily routine at OLS? Leave a comment on this post or on the FAQ site, and we'll get you the answer as soon as we can.

Scholastic Book Fair

There's still time to shop our Back-to-School Scholastic book fair! Stop by the Stolte/Schuermann room today from 3:00-3:45 to make your selections. If you can't make it then, don't worry! You can also purchase your items online through our book fair site, and items will ship free to the school once the fair has closed. The online store will be open through tomorrow night.

During the fair, we will be collecting money for Scholastic's All For Books Program. Your loose change dropped in the box at the cash register will buy books for our teachers. Scholastic will match every dollar we raise for ourselves and donate that to schools in need. This is a great cause!

We have titles for all ages and the proceeds from the fair directly benefit our school. Contact our book fair chair, Lisa Villhard (314-353-1451 ext. 218), with any questions.

Welcome Back!

On Monday, our faculty and staff welcomed OLS families to the new school year at our annual ice cream social and open house. Families visited their students' classrooms, shopped at the Scholastic book fair, and enjoyed ice cream while learning how they can get involved at OLS. We ended the night with our last installment of the Summer Movie Series. Peals of laughter filled Faenger Hall as families enjoyed Big Hero 6.

Though our blog volunteers took a break for the summer, we are ready to embark upon the new school year. Our posts may begin slowly as our students and faculty ease into classroom routines, but we're looking forward to sharing a new year at OLS with you!
