Mrs. Siekerman's fifth graders are working on the pre-chapter called "Be a Scientist." They've started an experiment by Belgian scientist Jan Baptist van Helmont that proves plants do not gain mass from absorbing soil through their roots. If not from soil, how do plants gain mass?
