Student Reporter News: Band Performance

On Sunday the twenty-first of February, the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade concert band members went to Bishop DuBourg High School.  Our new band director, Mr. Litvin, said that we did an excellent job. We were critiqued on our ability to keep the speed just right, our balance of sound, and our technique. The Our Lady of Sorrows Band performed three pieces. There were judicators; one, a former middle school band director herself, and the judicators would give us constructive criticism on what they thought needed to be worked on. There were three other bands there and together we played Thunder Bay March, a very active and lively piece in which we had to start over on because everyone started out on the same notes, but got all crazy because we went at different speeds.--8th grader Kaitlyn W.

2nd grade readers

Mrs. Huelsing's 2nd graders are eager readers! They enjoy finding a cozy spot in the classroom to do their reading assignments. Sometimes their pair up with a buddy and take turns reading to each other.

The 2nd graders complete book reports each month. Here we see the Arthur book reports they created in February.

Pinewood Derby

The Cub Scouts of Pack 51 hosted their annual pinewood derby last week.  Each scout designed, created, and decorated a car and had a chance to tell all derby attendees about his design process.

Then they were off to the races!  Each car participated in several heats, and the crowd loved watching the speedy races.  Fast or slow, all the boys were proud of their designs.

February in preschool

February was a season of celebrations in Preschool!  The Blue Room (whose art is featured here) observed Black History Month, Mardi Gras, and Valentine's Day.

Other classes celebrated Super Bowl, Chinese New Year, and Leap Day too!  The Yellow Room marked their 100th day of school.  We all started our very important Lenten journey by attending Mass on Ash Wednesday with our fourth grade buddies.  So much to celebrate in one short month!
