Sports
At OLS, many students love the
opportunity to participate in sports. Wearing the black and gold
uniforms is a long tradition at OLS, and today's students don their team
colors with pride.
Our
8th grade girls volleyball team shown here has played together for
years. Their teamwork and cooperation is evident both on the court and
off.

Track Time
If you are in grades K-8 and enjoy running and/or field events, come and join the OLS track team !! You do not have to be an OLS student, you just need to have an interest in the sport. The team has both running and field events. Running events include all distances between 100 meters - 1600 meters and 4X100 meter and 4X200 meter relay team (also a 50 meter dash for the youngest age group). Field events include high jump, long jump and shot put. It is a great chance for kids to get a little experience and see if they like it. It is also a great opportunity for leadership for the older kids as they help the younger kids at practice.
Our Lady of Sorrows has had many top finishers and champions in the past few years. That is really an accomplishment as each year there are about 1500-2000 kids that compete.

OLS Black & Gold
This week one of our student reporters recaps the annual Black & Gold basketball tournament:

Every
January we have a tournament called the Black and Gold. It’s a big thing! Many schools in the archdiocese play in it to
win. Every Friday of the 2 to 3 weeks is
the best because it’s the championship. I like it because it’s fun to watch and
play in.
I get to hang out with my friends. My brother played this year and they got 4th place, which was better than my team last year. Next year my team plays again and I think we can win because we have gotten a lot better at basketball.--7th grader Damian L.

Field Day
The OLS family - students, faculty, and parent volunteers - had a blast during our annual field day. Though rainy skies drove everyone indoors, the wet weather didn't dampen anyone's mood. Students from pre-K through 8th grade gathered in their family groups to compete in games ranging from cup stacking to tricycle races. The day culminated in a tug of war match between the 7th and 8th grades, a tradition enjoyed by both the participants and the spectators.
Thanks to Mr. Paulus for organizing the event and to the faculty and parental volunteers who made the day a success!

Throwback Thursday: OLS Soccer
As a tribute to our rich history, we're hoping to interlace some past photos as part of an occasional Throwback Thursday series. Today we're reaching back 64 years to share this gem with you. This photo features an OLS soccer team from the 1950-51 school year. Do you know any of these handsome gentlemen?

The Ron Kremer Memorial Scholarship
Last Friday, the Kremer Family introduced to the OLS community the Ron Kremer
Memorial Scholarship during the championship game of the Matt Sarich Black & Gold Tournament. This honor will be awarded annually to one boy and
one girl from the OLS 8th grade class. Chosen by the OLS Athletic Association, award recipients
are to attend a Catholic or private high school after graduating from
OLS. They are students who have shown exceptional leadership
qualities in and out of the classroom as well as on and off the
court/field and are active in OLS community. They have demonstrated good
sportsmanship by treating others with dignity and respect in sporting
events, winning with grace and losing with honor. They impart spiritual
and moral values and display ethical standards of conduct as well as
encourage cooperation and team spirit.
This inaugural honor for 2015 was awarded to Sam S. and Izella L. Congratulations to you both!
