Pi day

We celebrate pi day on March 14 because March is the third month and the fourteenth day.

  

As you can see in the video, many digits of pi are displayed in the 7th classroom.  We had a contest to see who could recite the most digits of pi.  We learned that pi is the circumference divided by the diameter of a circle (3.14).  We read SIR CUMFERENCE AND THE FIRST ROUND TABLE(A Math Adventure).  We made up songs and poems related to pi.  And... we ate lots of pies that were brought in and shared.

Girl Scout Sunday

Last weekend, OLS celebrated Girl Scout Sunday during 10:00 Mass.

On Girl Scout Sunday, we recognized the outstanding contributions these girls make to our parish through their service and works of charity.  Our Girl Scout troops processed in with their flags at the beginning of Mass and sat with their families at the front of church.  Each girl brought a canned good to donate to our parish’s St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.

Knights of Columbus Essay Winners

The OLS 6th, 7th, and 8th graders participated in an essay contest sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 453.  This year’s winning essays emphasized our school’s values of reverence, respect, and responsibility.  The award winners were recognized last week at our quarterly Home & School Association meeting.

Cor Jesu Math Contest

Last weekend, OLS sent two teams to participate in the Cor Jesu Academy Middle School Math Contest.

Our 6^th and 7^th grade teams competed against 40 other teams from across the St. Louis area. Our girls did a wonderful job and had a great time in the process!

8th Grade High School Selection

It’s time to brag a bit about our 8^th grade students. For the 4^th consecutive year, all of our students were accepted into their first choice high school. Congratulations, OLS class of 2016! We are so proud of you. 

 

 

Our students will be attending the following high schools: St. Louis University High School, Chaminade, Vianney, St. Mary's, Rosati-Kain, Ursuline, and Bishop DuBourg. 

Student Reporter News: Mrs. Banahan Video

On Friday the whole school gathered in the gym and made a video for Mrs. Banahan. She is half way through her treatments and we wanted to send our love and prayers to her. Mrs. Mongan had the idea to sing “Living on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi and tell her we love and miss her and that we are praying for her. The whole school will continue to pray for her recovery and her return to school.--8th grader Faith K.

Student Reporter News: Freak the Mighty

"We just finished once again another good book in Reading class. This book was called Freak the Mighty; it had imagery, metaphors, alliteration, and many more versions of figurative language. The book could drag you in as if it were an alligator dragging a deer into the water. You just went deeper in. I appreciate being able to read all the wonderful books with Mrs. Ryan because they are fun.--7^th" grader Halie M.
